BRIDGES
There are many, many bridges
over navigable waterways in 8ER. It is the Coast Guard's job to verify that
these lights are "watching
properly." Any discrepancies of bridge
lights are considered "critical" and
MUST be reported
to Sector Ohio
Valley by
radio or telephone!
Once the discrepancy is
reported our job is not done. A check needs to made to be sure that the
discrepant light has been re-lit. If the light remains discrepant, this needs
to be reported as many times as needed to get the light "watching
properly." A reasonable length of time, about 72 hours, between reports
is suggested. In reality, the discrepant bridge light is supposed to be
re-lighted within 24 hours.
You can check bridge lights
without being on a patrol. You will receive AUXDATA credit for your AToN
discrepancy report . You will NOT receive patrol hour credit on AUXDATA. You CAN report your time on
ANSC 7029 for credit. You can also
report discrepant bridge lights from an automobile or while on foot and get
credit in Auxdata.
